Ideas worth spreading, from Newcastle.
TEDxNewy is an independently licensed TED event in Newcastle, Australia, on Awabakal and Worimi Country. We believe in the power of ideas, and in giving a platform to those worth sharing. In a world where anyone can share an opinion, we care about curating credible, reliable, local voices, and sharing with the world the innovation and thinking happening right here in Newy.
A city this curious deserves a stage this serious.
Six things we promise.
- 01
Connect
A community of curious Novocastrians, engaging with ideas and each other.
- 02
Inspire
Speakers who challenge, influence and evoke the conversations that matter.
- 03
Discover
Deeper understanding of our city, our region and the world, through curiosity and wonder.
- 04
Volunteer-driven
100% volunteer-run, not-for-profit. Every dollar goes back into the stage and the speakers.
- 05
Local
We celebrate the brilliance and innovation of Newcastle, working with local vendors and providers to bring the event to life.
- 06
Impact
Ideas can shift attitudes, transform lives, and ultimately change everything.
What is a TEDx event?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organised events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organised TED event.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx programme, but individual TEDx events, like ours, are self-organised. TEDxNewy is operated under licence from TED by Newcastle Ideas Network Limited, and rebranded from TEDxCooksHill in 2026.
